It's one thing to just be able to play DVD's and music, it's another to take a complete gamble with Blu-Ray and jack the prices up to the point of having one of the worst launches in history. Will they do better? Only time will tell. But they need to get it going because they're losing a lot of fans to Microsoft and Nintendo.

worst launches in history.
I think that dubious honor would have to go to the Saturn.  Sega really screwed that up. Tongue

To be fair, part of the reason for throwing Blu-Ray in the PS3 was to give it an edge in hardware, but I get where you're coming from.  Although, I don't think they've really lost many PS2 owners to the 360 and Wii.  Yes, there have been 12 million 360's sold, but the majority of those sales come from people who owned the original Xbox in the first place.  Most of the 10 million Wii owners either had the Gamecube or had never really had a game console before.  So that still leaves a lot of PS2 owners out there, undecided about which onsole they're going to get.

Good thing is that the Blue Ray gamble is paying off, as it's outselling HDDVDS 3 to 1. I love the multimedia functions of the PS3 and 360...they really come in handy with parties, or networking between friends' 360's and such. It's great. The PS3 will end up winning the war in the end (BUT N0 STRUBES!!1!1 THE PS3 IS TEH SUXORS!)....but I love my 360 and PS3 the same. I'm just waiting on the games now.  Grin

I have a feeling winning and losing will be sort of blurred this generation.  It seems like we're gonna see a generation where every console has a significant share of the market (preemptive yes, but it still seems likely), so in a way, they will all win. Grin
